3D Stained Glass Christmas Train Pattern: Locomotive and Wagons
Build a cheerful vintage locomotive and its wagons from one digital stained glass pattern. This 3D stained glass train pattern is drawn by hand with clean foil lines and simple parts, so it suits an experienced hobbyist who wants a satisfying volume project that stands on its own — no separate base, no supports.
Once finished, it makes a lovely centrepiece for your Christmas table, filled with wrapped sweets or painted eggs, and it sits happily beside the rest of a stained glass Christmas village.
What You Get in This Pattern
One pattern, three separate pieces: a locomotive and two wagons. They stand together as a short train, or you can spread them along a shelf, a mantelpiece or a windowsill.
- A locomotive with a rounded roof, a spiral wire smokestack and a front cowcatcher
- Two matching wagons — the pattern includes both
- Simple, cleanly separated parts with generous foil lines, which makes cutting and soldering calm rather than fiddly
The wagons are open at the top on purpose, so they are meant to be filled. Wrapped sweets, foil-wrapped chocolates, coloured eggs or pine cones all look lovely in them.

Everything You Need Is in the Assembly Guide
This project is unusual because the pattern comes with a complete, step-by-step photo guide. We wrote it for people who are confident with soldering but want to be walked through a volumetric build rather than a flat one.
The guide covers ten steps, from cutting the left and right panels through to shaping the roof and attaching the wheels, and every step has photographs. It also explains where the foil strips go so you can solder the smokestack in later, and how to check the clearance under the locomotive before you add the cowcatcher.

Two Ways to Make a Stained Glass Train
There are two quite different trains in our range, and it is worth choosing the right one before you start.
Prefer a flat, classic Christmas train?
If you would rather build a flat stained glass train panel instead of a three-dimensional one, take a look at our Christmas Train pattern with Santa and his gifts. It is a single flat scene — Santa in the engine, presents stacked in the wagons, with a snowman and a gingerbread man riding along — and it hangs beautifully in a window or stands in a holiday display.

Prefer the finished, three-dimensional train?
If you would rather not cut and solder anything at all, the same locomotive and wagons are built for you in real stained glass, and you choose how many wagons you want. Any set stands on its own from three pieces, with no extra supports and no stand.

About This Design
At AAGlassStudio, every pattern is drawn by an experienced stained glass artist with 24 years in the craft. Our 3D stained glass patterns are tested on real glass, and we check the foil line spacing on every drawing so the pieces solder cleanly.
The locomotive you see in the photographs was our very first experimental model. Everything we learned making it — every small fitting that was slightly awkward — is already corrected in the pattern you will download.

More Christmas Vehicles for Your Stained Glass Village
A train is only one vehicle in a Christmas scene. These three 3D patterns bring the rest of it to life — a gift sleigh with reindeer, a vintage truck loaded with presents, and a pair of simple sledges for the smallest of the family. All three use the same copper foil technique and the same warm stained glass style as the train, so they sit together without looking borrowed.
211114 — Warm Memories Sleigh & Reindeer. A long sleigh with reindeer in front, generous enough for a generous gift. Choose it if your scene needs a second focal point.
