Wise Raven Stained Glass Pattern — Raven on Books, 12-Inch Round Panel
A black raven perched on a stack of books, inside a round frame. The subject does the work: a raven on books is a compact, readable image about knowledge, and the circular format gives it the look of a medallion or a window. This is the kind of piece that reads from across a room, which matters at 12 inches. Download it instantly and trace it from the printed sheet, or take the vector file to a plotter or laser cutter.
The panel measures 12″ × 12″ (305 × 305 mm) and is built from 92 pieces of glass. That is a substantial project — realistically a fortnight of evenings, and a good deal longer than it looks on the page because the pieces are small relative to the overall size. If stained glass is new to you, this is not the place to start; if you have finished pieces in the 50-plus range, it is a satisfying one.

What the colours are doing
The palette is dark — black, navy and clear. That has two consequences worth planning for. First, backlighting matters: a round piece this size reads best against daylight or a light panel, because the clear glass is what separates the dark birds from the dark background. Second, if you hang it in a dim room it will disappear, so give it a light source behind it or a bright wall behind it.
Where it works
A study, a library, a hallway, or a stairwell with enough height for a 12-inch circle. At this size the piece needs a wall that can carry it rather than a spot that needs filling. It is also a strong choice for a hanging, since the round frame reads well from above eye level.
Who buys this pattern
Experienced hobbyists ready for a long project; collectors building a raven or a literary set — it pairs with other book and raven designs in the collection; makers who take commissions and sell finished panels; and customers buying a substantial house gift for someone who cuts glass.
Licence
A personal and commercial licence is included. Make it for yourself, commission it out, or cut and sell the finished panel — no per-sale fees and no reporting back.
Printing and finishing
Print the PDF at 100% scale — at 12 inches, check that your printer can take the paper, and use a plotter or large-format printer if it cannot. Print the reference image separately and keep it beside your cutting mat. Work in sections: assemble the books first, then the raven, then the frame, and dry-fit the whole thing before the final solder. With 92 small pieces, label as you cut — the pieces repeat in the feather and page areas, and finding a mislabelled piece at the end costs more than labelling did.
A note before you start
You are buying the pattern only — glass, came, solder, a backing board, and any finished panel are not included. The photographs show the design completed by other makers using their own materials.
